Bound in the original flexible red cloth with bright gold lettering on front cover and spine. The binding is tight and the cloth shows very little wear. A very well-preserved copy. Endpapers are illustrated with maps & page edges are marbled. Interior is in excellent condition: the pages, text, and illustrations remain bright and clean. 472pp. Previous owner name on front free endpaper (Athens, Greece. April 11, 1905). 12mo. Hardcover. Very Good+ condition.
Karl Baedeker was a German publisher. His company, Baedeker, realized the importance of including quality, reliable maps in travel guides and set the standard for authoritative guidebooks for tourists. Baedeker engaged the services of Eduard Wagner of Darmstadt, a specialist in cartography, whose map production proved to be pioneering.
