Written with the help of phonographic dictation, Twain was the first author to utilize this medium of recording. The novel is further set apart by Twain's play on setting, a first in fictitious literature, as there is no mention of weather in the novel but for the first sentence of the second paragraph: "fine, breezy morning." Twain does, however, provide an Appendix at rear, "Weather for Use in this Book," to be referenced now and again.
